States of Trance

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

That also means that the Hypnotherapist can’t read your mind, take control over you or make you do anything you wouldn’t want to do. You will not lose your consciousness, you won’t fall asleep forever or be sleeping at all, and it is definitely not dangerous.

There are so many misunderstandings with Hypnotherapy I want to start by explaining what it is not. It is not anything like you might have seen on TV, in shows in hotels or on stage. These are purely for people’s entertainment which has nothing to do with Hypnotherapy. That also means that the Hypnotherapist can’t read your mind, take control over you or make you do anything you wouldn’t want to do. You will not lose your consciousness, you won’t fall asleep forever or be sleeping at all, and it is definitely not dangerous.

Actually in Cognitive Hypnotherapy we believe you are in trance all the time with your eyes wide open! You go through different stages of states of trance during the day. Does that surprise you? For example, you are in trance when you watch TV and you don’t recognise what’s going on around you. You are in a trance when a spider becomes bigger and more dangerous in your eyes. You are in a trance when you are driving home and you can’t remember the last few kilometres you’ve driven. In Hypnotherapy we use techniques of relaxation to achieve your desired outcome of a problem. It is a bit like meditation, the only difference is that you are guided through it and that you have agreed on a purpose before going into relaxation.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help you gain control over problems or situations where you otherwise feel helpless. It is a therapeutic approach that combines ideas drawn from Cognitive Theory, Evolutionary Psychology, NLP (Neuro-linguistic programing) and uses a theory of trance states proposed by Steven Wolinsky, within the approach to suggestions developed by the author of the book "Wordweaving" Trevor Silvester (Founder of the Quest institute) to create a brief therapy. In Cognitive Hypnotherapy we work with each client differently according to their own model of the world. “There is not one technique that works with everyone but everyone can benefit from at least one technique.”(Trevor Silvester)

NLP (Neuro-ligustic programing) plays a big role in Cognitive Hypnotherapy.

¿ What is NLP ?

¿ What is NLP ?

NLP was created in the 70`s by John Grinder (assistant professor of linguistics) and Richard Bandler (student of psychology). The Initial purpose was to:

  • Model outstanding therapists
  • Identify patterns of excellence
  • To devise a means for other therapists to achieve similar results

Use of NLP today is to help clients to:

  • Overcome problems
  • Exceed beyond their limitations
  • Achieve sporting excellence

“Using the principles of NLP it is possible to describe any human activity in a detailed way that allows you to make many deep and lasting changes quickly and easily” - Steve Andreas (NLP expert)
